I’m really into swapping playlists with my friends. We’ll curate lists for each other every once in a while. It’s a great way to discover new music while also remembering jams you might have forgot. Right now we’re really into Roosevelt, Glades, and Smallpools.
KANYE. Good Music is killing it. Ye, Daytona and the upcoming Kids See Ghost Album are filling my Spotify queues.
I've been listening to a lot of Kim Petra's new songs and Florence and The Machine's new song Hunger. Also, for podcasts, I love listening to Amanda Seales' podcast Small Doses where she tackles contemporary issues with an intellectual and entertaining perspective.
I tend to stick with my daily mixes curated by Spotify. The newest artists in these mixes have been Smino, dvsn, H.E.R, Xavier Omar and Daniel Caesar along with infamous Musiq Soulchild. But being that I am a J. Cole fan, his latest album KOD has also been circulating my playlist. In terms of podcasts, I have listened to Elevation by Steven Furtick and Therapy for Black Girls by Joy Harden Bradford.
I’m a huge fan of the NPR podcast How I Built This, and I love to listen to new episodes during my commute to and from work. I’m also an OG Toaster and catch all my pop culture news and gossip on The Morning Toast.
Right now, I'm listening to Rex Orange County and my favorite album is Kids' Menu by Jaeden Camstra. Kids' Menu is snippets from kids tv show songs mixed with eclectic music (weird but so good). Both artists make very feel good music vibes.
My go-to tune to listen to while I’m hanging out with friends or working out is the new Big Bootie Mix, Volume 13 by Two Friends on SoundCloud. SoundCloud has not been very popular recently as new music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify have grown; however, members of Gen Z are very into this series of mixes by an artist called “Two Friends” that can only be found on SoundCloud. I really thought the Big Bootie Mixes were only well-known among college students, but the other night my younger sister in high school asked me, “Do you know anything about this booty song everyone is playing?”
I've been listening to a lot of BROCKHAMPTON lately. BROCKHAMPTON is a hip-hop collective of 10 or so members that creates everything from amazing tunes, to unique music videos and photography. They even refer to themselves as an in house creative agency.
I’ve been listening to Daniel Caesar’s Freudian album for months now. Also, Hobo Johnson and the Lovemakers’ NPR Tiny Desk submission video for their song “Peach Scone” was very weirdly delightful.
I just started listening to a couple singles I saw trending on iTunes including Bebe Rexa and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant to Be” and Selena Gomez’s “Back to You” from the 13 Reasons Why Season 2 soundtrack.
Might be late to the game here- but just finished listening to the podcast, Serial. Highly recommend if you have not listened already!
